Phlebotomy Technician - Float

About the role

Phlebotomy Technicians are essential members of the medical laboratory team, responsible for the accurate and efficient collection of blood samples from patients across all ages. This full‑time float position works days from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm and may require travel to various locations within the Cleveland Clinic Health System.

Key responsibilities

• Perform blood collection procedures following venipuncture protocols.
• Verify order requests and identify required information before drawing blood.
• Label all specimens and deliver them to the appropriate processing area.
• Process specimens, including accessioning, centrifugation, and packaging.
• Pick up and deliver blood, other sample types, and lab supplies.
• Travel to multiple locations within the enterprise as needed.
• Complete and submit administrative paperwork such as time and mileage reports.
• Maintain flexibility to cover assigned locations and hours with minimal notice.
• Follow proper laboratory safety procedures and use personal protective equipment.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least one year of current phlebotomy experience.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (upon hire or within six months).
• Current, valid driver’s license.

Required skills

• Venipuncture and blood collection from all patient populations.
• Specimen labeling and handling.
• Accessioning of laboratory samples.

• Use of personal protective equipment and adherence to safety protocols.
