Phlebotomist – Gurney Unit (Correctional Managed Care)

About the role

The Gurney Unit Phlebotomist provides essential blood‑collection services for incarcerated and juvenile justice patients. Working within a secure correctional environment, you will use skin (micro) puncture and venipuncture techniques to obtain specimens for laboratory testing.

Key responsibilities

• Order and maintain laboratory supplies and assist with equipment acquisition.
• Collect blood using skin puncture and venipuncture, following hospital identification protocols.
• Prepare specimens for transport, complete daily lab manifests, and participate in collection rounds.
• Maintain lab reminders, clean and organize drawing trays and equipment.
• Manage sharps inventory and ensure proper security and handling.
• Prepare monthly reports and adhere to internal controls and reporting structures.
• Perform related duties as required, including occasional travel within the facility.

Required profile

• Security clearance and pre‑employment drug testing are mandatory.
• Ability to work safely in an environment with communicable diseases, chemicals, and potentially combative patients.
• Experience in phlebotomy or related clinical laboratory work.
• Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols.
