Mental Health Case Manager – Coffield Unit

About the role

The Mental Health Case Manager (MHCM) provides case management, social and habilitative services, and counseling to incarcerated patients at the Coffield Unit. Working under the supervision of a psychologist or mental health manager, the MHCM supports the health needs of underserved populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and document patients' mental health needs and monitor behavior, mental status, and medication compliance.
• Make appropriate referrals and serve as liaison between patients, families, and multiple on‑site departments.
• Administer and score psychometric tests under supervision.
• Provide supervised individual and group counseling, as well as psychoeducational training.
• Conduct social history assessments and monitor ongoing mental health status.
• Assist with quality improvement programs and ensure compliance with departmental policies.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, or Mental Health/Behavioral Science.
• Alternatively, a Criminal Justice degree with at least 15 hours of coursework in psychology, social work, or counseling plus two years of mental health case management experience.
• Security clearance and pre‑employment drug testing are mandatory.
• Salary commensurate with relevant experience.
