Certified Medication Aide (CMA) – Gurney Unit

About the role

The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) works on the Gurney Unit of a correctional healthcare facility, providing direct patient care and medication distribution under the supervision of nursing staff. The role supports the health and safety of incarcerated individuals while maintaining a therapeutic environment.

Key responsibilities

• Collect and document vital signs, height, weight, intake/output, and pulse oximetry.
• Perform Point of Care Testing and specimen collection.
• Assist with patient hygiene, wound care, ostomy care, catheter care, and feeding.
• Ambulate, position, and turn patients, including those with limited mobility.
• Administer and document medications in accordance with Texas licensing standards, ensuring drug room security.
• Support patient safety by managing restraints, monitoring emergencies, and maintaining privacy.
• Interview incoming patients, complete screening forms, and coordinate psychiatric referrals.
• Maintain a clean, safe facility environment and manage pharmacy computer entries.

Required profile

• Certified Medication Aide (CMA) credential.
• Ability to work in a correctional setting and follow strict regulatory guidelines.
• Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
• Capacity to handle physically demanding tasks and assist patients with diverse needs.
