Phlebotomist – CMC – Gurney Unit

About the role

The Gurney Unit of the Correctional Managed Care (CMC) program is seeking a qualified Phlebotomist to provide essential blood collection services for incarcerated and juvenile justice populations. This role supports patient care by obtaining accurate specimens and ensuring proper handling within a secure correctional environment.

Key responsibilities

• Collect blood samples using skin (micro) puncture and venipuncture techniques.
• Identify patients according to hospital protocol before specimen collection.
• Prepare and label specimens for transport, maintain daily lab manifests, and ensure timely delivery to the laboratory.
• Order, receive, and manage laboratory supplies and equipment, maintaining appropriate sharps inventory.
• Participate in hospital and clinic collection rounds and maintain lab reminders for continuity of care.
• Keep blood‑drawing trays and equipment clean, organized, and secure.
• Prepare monthly reports and adhere to internal controls and reporting structures.

Required profile

• Ability to work safely in a correctional setting, including exposure to communicable diseases and potentially combative patients.
• Security clearance and pre‑employment drug testing are mandatory.
• Strong attention to detail and adherence to patient identification and specimen handling protocols.
