Petroleum Inspector – Los Angeles, CA

About the role

Petroleum Inspectors visit client facilities such as barges, ships, shore tanks, railcars, and tank trucks to conduct quantity surveys of petroleum and petrochemical commodities and collect samples for laboratory analysis.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a valid driver’s license and a working vehicle at all times.
• Receive orders, gather paperwork, and ensure equipment is calibrated and in good condition.
• Report to job sites punctually and comply with all safety, measurement, and regulatory standards.
• Obtain samples, gauge tanks and vessels, label containers accurately, and calculate quantities.
• Deliver samples safely to the laboratory or client facilities and complete required paperwork.
• Communicate any discrepancies or incidents to the Operations Supervisor promptly.
• Attend key meetings with external personnel and represent the company professionally.
• Maintain a 24‑hour on‑call status and participate in the Business Management System.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Knowledge of health, safety and environmental procedures and related regulations.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Basic mathematical skills for measuring and calculating quantities.
• Reasoning ability to follow written or oral instructions and solve standard problems.

Required skills

• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a car or truck.

• Calibration verification of measurement equipment.
• Accurate quantity calculation and paperwork completion.
