Per Diem Ultrasound Technologist

About the role

The University of Miami Health System seeks a Per Diem Ultrasound Technologist to perform complex sonographic procedures, ensuring high‑quality diagnostic images for patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine and specialty sonographic procedures across all difficulty levels.
• Operate ultrasound scanners and related equipment following radiation safety protocols under radiologist supervision.
• Ensure diagnostic quality of scans by applying extensive knowledge of ultrasound techniques and disease processes.
• Make preliminary interpretations to highlight suspected pathology for the attending physician.
• Verify patient orders, gather clinical information, and assist physicians with invasive procedures.
• Provide patient education, escort patients, and adjust communication to meet individual needs.
• Maintain and clean ultrasound equipment, perform quality assurance tests, and report malfunctions.
• Conduct portable bedside examinations and train students, residents, and staff.
• Complete required documentation, enter reports, and adhere to safety and infection control standards.

Required profile

• High School diploma or equivalent and graduation from an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography and/or Vascular program.
• ARDMS registration with Abdominal & Vascular certification; CPR and BLS certification required.
• Minimum three (3) years of relevant ultrasound experience.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ultrasound imaging equipment and scanners.
• Knowledge of sonographic techniques, disease processes, and technical pitfalls.
• ARDMS certification (Abdominal & Vascular).
• CPR and BLS certification.
