Per Diem Phlebotomist

About the role

Jupiter Medical Center, ranked #1 for safety, quality and patient satisfaction in Palm Beach County, is hiring a per diem phlebotomist. The role covers specimen collection and testing according to laboratory policy and procedure manuals, with possible travel to offsite locations.

Key responsibilities

• Accurately and efficiently collect specimens and perform testing as defined by laboratory policy and procedure manuals.
• Enter data into computers and monitor workflow.
• Assess the environment to ensure patient safety and choose appropriate equipment.
• Maintain chain of custody for forensic collections and keep HRP and pending log lists.
• Organize workflow to improve efficiency.
• Answer phones, fax reports, maintain phlebotomy inventory and keep the area clean.
• May drive to offsite locations for specimen collections and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• BLS certification through the American Heart Association for healthcare providers.
• Recognized national certification such as ASPT or ASCP preferred.
• Able to work in a stressful environment, detail-oriented, alert and self-motivated.
• Physical demands include standing, sitting, stooping and walking for long periods, lifting up to 50 lbs and pushing or pulling up to 40 lbs.
• Annual Joint Commission mandatory education, TB/PPD surveillance and maintenance of required licenses or certifications.

Required skills

• Precise hand-eye coordination and finger dexterity for procedures and specimen collection.
• Ability to use more than one computer system to track and receive orders.
• Ability to learn specimen requirements for over 2,000 tests, draw timing and correct anatomy.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and ability to work independently and in a team.
