Per Diem Pathology Assistant

About the role

The Department of Pathology at the University of Miami is seeking a Per Diem Pathology Assistant to support the gross examination and processing of surgical and autopsy specimens. Working under the supervision of a pathologist, you will contribute to a wide range of diagnostic and research activities in a fast‑paced laboratory environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform gross examination, dissection and description of anatomic pathology specimens.
• Conduct post‑mortem examinations and prepare bodies for release to funeral homes.
• Prepare tissue samples for frozen sections, flow cytometry, immunohistochemical staining and other specialized tests.
• Handle tissue banking, photograph specimens, and assist in educational conferences.
• Maintain and sterilize laboratory equipment and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
• Document findings, obtain legal authorization for autopsies, and liaise with other departments and laboratories.

Required profile

• Associate’s degree in a relevant scientific field.
• Attention to detail and ability to work accurately under pressure.
• Capability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Willingness to work evenings, nights and weekends as needed.
• Commitment to university values and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
