People Systems Architect (Workday)

About the role

Fastly is hiring a People Systems Architect to act as its internal Workday functional subject matter expert. The role partners with the People team to plan and deliver Workday configurations and extensions that support digital transformation, and to implement, optimize and fine-tune Workday functionality within project timelines. It suits someone who turns requirements into execution, enjoys process optimization and collaborates with and teaches others.

Key responsibilities

• Lead HR technology projects of varying complexity, including the annual compensation cycle, semi-annual performance reviews and learning initiatives.
• Partner with People COEs and business stakeholders to identify process improvements and recommend Workday-based solutions.
• Gather, clarify and document business requirements, turning them into process designs, configuration plans and delivery plans.
• Configure and optimize Workday business processes, calculated fields, condition rules, security and related functionality.
• Manage testing: define scenarios and use cases, write test scripts, coordinate cross-functional testing and lead or support UAT.
• Create, maintain and support Workday reports; dashboards with Prism Analytics and Discovery Board are a plus.
• Manage EIBs and support recurring and ad hoc data loads, imports, exports, validation and reconciliation.
• Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 support, troubleshoot complex issues, coordinate escalations and drive issues to resolution.
• Lead or support Workday release readiness, including impact assessments, regression testing and stakeholder communication.
• Own the ongoing administration, optimization and operational health of Workday, including data quality, reporting, integrations and tenant activities.
• Help prioritize enhancement requests, assess risks and dependencies, and contribute to the People Systems roadmap.
• Maintain configuration, process and training documentation, and support SOX and other compliance activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Information Systems, Business or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5-8 years of progressive Workday or HR technology experience, including significant hands-on Workday configuration.
• Deep Workday configuration experience in at least three of: Absence, Benefits, Compensation, Performance, Talent, Time Off, Time Tracking, Payroll or Core HCM; Compensation is a must.
• Experience supporting Workday releases, production issues, UAT, enhancement delivery and cross-functional technology projects.
• Ability to understand how changes in one area affect connected processes, downstream systems, reporting and the employee experience.
• Strong communication skills, able to explain Workday functionality to non-technical audiences, and a track record of building trusted relationships with People leadership, COEs, IT, vendors and other stakeholders.

Required skills

• Workday configuration and business processes, including calculated fields, condition rules, reporting, EIBs, data validation and basic security concepts.
• Availability during core business hours; hybrid or remote work is possible, with a strong preference for hybrid near a local office, and possible travel.
