Payroll Tax Manager

About the role

Vensure Employer Solutions is seeking a Payroll Tax Manager to lead payroll tax operations, ensure compliance across federal, state, and local jurisdictions, and provide leadership to supervisors and payroll tax teams. This role is ideal for a payroll tax professional with strong multi‑state experience and leadership capabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee payroll tax filings, payments, reconciliations, and compliance activities.
• Manage federal, state, and local payroll tax reporting requirements, including W‑2 processing and year‑end activities.
• Ensure timely resolution of tax notices, discrepancies, and escalated client issues.
• Monitor tax law changes and implement required compliance updates.
• Conduct audits, maintain accurate payroll tax records, and develop procedures and best practices.
• Coach, train, and manage payroll tax supervisors and team members.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years of high‑volume, multi‑state payroll tax experience.
• At least 2 years of supervisory or managerial experience.
• CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or FPC (Fundamental Payroll Certification) required.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.
• Experience managing large payroll tax operations in a high‑volume environment.

Required skills

• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC).
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Hands‑on experience with e‑file and EFT systems.
• Familiarity with MasterTax and PrismHR/HRP payroll tax software.
