Payroll Coordinator

About the role

Abilene Christian University's Payroll Coordinator is the primary day-to-day payroll processor for the university system, working closely with the Tax and Payroll Compliance Accountant. The position covers payroll-cycle coordination, exception handling, reconciliations, employee payroll inquiries and audit readiness. Key responsibilities

• Process scheduled and authorized off-cycle payrolls, validate earnings, deductions, withholdings and direct deposit, and resolve payroll errors and exceptions with HR, Finance, Benefits and HRIS.
• Monitor timekeeping and payroll exception reports, follow up on unresolved items and escalate recurring issues to the Deputy CHRO.
• Review approved employee changes affecting pay, confirm authorizations and monitor effective dates and cutoffs.
• Review payroll registers and control totals, perform gross-to-net and operational reconciliations, investigate variances and prepare reports for HR, Finance and auditors.
• Act as a primary contact for employee payroll questions, explain pay calculations and handle sensitive payroll and tax information confidentially.
• Run payroll in Workday, monitor workflows and integrations, take part in payroll testing and help build payroll reports and dashboards.
• Support payroll-tax filings, W-2 review and year-end reporting, and provide backup payroll procedures and cross-training with the Tax and Payroll Compliance Accountant.
