Payroll & Benefits Generalist

About the role

This position supports Great States Construction, Great States Development, and Collective, handling payroll and benefits across construction, real‑estate development, and property management. Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the role also assists with employee relations, compliance, and recruiting.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end bi‑weekly payroll processing, including off‑cycle runs, wage calculations, deductions, commissions and tax filings.
• Administer employee benefit programs (medical, dental, vision, life, disability, HSA, FSA), manage enrollments, qualifying life events and terminations.
• Maintain payroll and benefits records, reconcile reports, conduct audits and generate standard and ad‑hoc reports.
• Support employee engagement initiatives, onboarding, offboarding, and basic employee‑relations matters.
• Assist with compliance tasks such as I‑9 documentation, policy acknowledgments and audit preparation.

Required profile

• Associate’s degree in HR, Accounting, Finance or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years leading full‑cycle payroll administration, preferably with multi‑state and sales/commission payroll.
• Experience in benefits administration is preferred.

Required skills

• Proficiency with HRIS platforms (BambooHR preferred).
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
