Patient Care Nurse Assistant – Medical/Surgical

About the role

The Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA) works night shifts on the 4 East Medical/Surgical unit at Indian River Hospital, providing compassionate care to a diverse patient population. The role supports nursing staff, assists patients with daily activities, and contributes to a safe, healing environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist nursing caregivers with patient comfort, transport, and execution of nursing orders.
• Perform EKG and phlebotomy duties, collect and transport specimens.
• Support patients with activities of daily living such as dressing, bathing, and hygiene.
• Document care in the medical record and report vital signs, intake/output, and blood glucose results to RNs/LPNs.
• Restock and order supplies, set up trays, and respond to call lights within five minutes.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross) within the new‑hire period.
• Graduate of an approved Nursing Assistant program or CNA certification preferred.
• Six months of acute‑care hospital experience preferred.
