Patient Care Nurse Assistant – Intermediate Cardiac Care

About the role

The Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA) works on the 3 South/3 North Intermediate Cardiac Care unit at Indian River Hospital, providing supportive care to patients with higher‑level medical needs than routine inpatient care. This part‑time day position offers a pathway to ICU experience and opportunities for further education within the Cleveland Clinic Health System.

Key responsibilities

• Assist nursing staff with patient comfort, daily living activities, and execution of nursing orders.
• Transport patients via wheelchair, bed, or stretcher and perform EKG and phlebotomy duties.
• Collect and transport specimens, document care, and provide accurate intake/output, vital signs, and blood glucose data.
• Restock and order supplies, set up trays for feeding, and respond to call lights within five minutes.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or Red Cross) within the new‑hire period.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lb, bend, and move quickly throughout the facility.
• Strong visual and auditory skills for patient assessment and emergency response.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification or graduation from an approved nursing assistant program (preferred).
• Experience with EKG, phlebotomy, and patient transport.
