Patient Care Nurse Assistant – Cardiac Stepdown

About the role

The Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA) works the night shift on the 5 East Cardiac Stepdown Unit at Indian River Hospital, providing supportive care to patients with cardiac and neuro conditions.

Key responsibilities

• Assist nursing staff with patient comfort, transport, and execution of nursing orders.
• Perform EKGs, phlebotomy, collect and transport specimens, and document care in the medical record.
• Support patients with activities of daily living, tray set‑up, feeding, and provide intake/output, vital signs, and blood glucose data to RNs/LPNs.
• Restock and order supplies, respond to call lights within five minutes, and assist with equipment removal for room cleaning.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or Red Cross) at hire.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lb and perform physical tasks such as repositioning patients.
• Strong visual and auditory skills for patient assessment and emergency response.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification (preferred).
• EKG competency.
• Phlebotomy experience.
