Patient Access Specialist - Per Diem Days (Float)

About the role

Jupiter Medical Center, ranked #1 for safety, quality and patient satisfaction in Palm Beach County, is hiring a float Patient Access Specialist on a per diem days basis. The specialist delivers a strong customer experience, handles patient registration and insurance verification, and acts as a liaison between patients and hospital services.

Key responsibilities

• Obtain demographic, insurance and medical information to ensure accurate and complete registration.
• Perform insurance verification, collect and document data, and maintain proper documentation in all systems.
• Identify patient financial responsibilities and collect applicable monies.
• Act as liaison to internal and external customers to facilitate access to hospital services.
• Secure documentation for each visit and process authorizations electronically via payer portals, fax or telephone.
• Answer phones, respond to questions, direct calls and document messages.
• Communicate with physicians, managers, peers and staff, and promote effective communication methods.
• Check for data errors and use them to educate team members.
• Adhere to Medicare, Medicaid and managed care plan requirements, run daily update and insurance exception reports, and complete end-of-day duties.
• Provide coverage for co-workers' responsibilities when assigned or as needed.

Required profile

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• BLS certification through the American Heart Association for healthcare providers.
• Preferred: billing and coding certification.
• Experience with EMR systems, insurance verification, eligibility and electronic billing.
• Knowledge of health insurance plans and benefits, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Customer support experience, medical terminology knowledge, and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Ability to prioritize, multitask, listen carefully and follow directions.

Physical requirements

• Sitting for long periods, plus stooping, bending, standing and stretching.
• Manual dexterity for typing and data entry.
• Able to lift up to 40 lbs. and carry up to 20 lbs.
