Pathologists Assistant

About the role

The Pathologists Assistant supports accurate and timely diagnoses by independently examining, describing, dissecting, and preparing surgical specimens for histologic evaluation at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus.

Key responsibilities

• Perform gross examination, description, and dissection of human surgical specimens, including preparation for ancillary studies.
• Enter and maintain accession information, test results, and documentation in laboratory information systems.
• Conduct quality control activities, instrument calibrations, maintenance, and corrective actions in compliance with CLIA, CAP, and institutional policies.
• Maintain laboratory instrumentation and work areas, troubleshoot technical issues, and provide mentorship to pathology residents and students.

Required profile

• Master’s degree from an NAACLS‑accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program or Bachelor’s degree with training meeting ASCP certification requirements.
• At least 2 years of experience as a certified Pathologists’ Assistant (PA, ASCP).
• ASCP certification or eligibility.
• Physical ability to handle specimens, use instrumentation, and stand for extended periods.

Required skills

• Gross specimen examination and dissection.
• Use of laboratory information systems for accessioning and reporting.
• Knowledge of CLIA regulations and CAP standards.
• Instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
