Pastoral Care Fellow

About the role

The Pastoral Care Fellow provides spiritual and pastoral support to patients, families and surrogates at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. Working under the department director and a certified ACPE supervisor, the fellow integrates Catholic Ethical and Religious Directives, Ignatian values such as cura personalis, and MedStar SPIRIT principles into daily care.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver individualized spiritual care to patients and their loved ones throughout the hospital stay.
• Collaborate with clinical teams, chaplains and department staff to coordinate pastoral services.
• Maintain documentation in accordance with ACPE standards and hospital policies.
• Participate in supervised clinical pastoral education sessions and reflective practice.
• Uphold the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care and Ignatian identity in all interactions.

Required profile

• Graduate‑level degree in theology, religious studies or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
• Completion of at least one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education from an accredited ACPE program.
• Commitment to social‑justice oriented ministry and the principle of cura personalis.
• Ability to work compassionately with diverse patient populations in a hospital setting.
