Part‑time Academic Tutor – Writing Center

About the role

The Writing Center seeks a Tutor I to support students in the full writing process. Working under the Writing Center Coordinator, you will help students format papers, cite sources, brainstorm ideas, and develop clear thesis statements.

Key responsibilities

• Meet individually or in small groups to guide students through pre‑writing, drafting, revising, proofreading, and editing.
• Assist with citation formatting in MLA, APA, Chicago, or other required styles.
• Explain plagiarism policies and proper in‑text citation.
• Develop and deliver workshops on writing fundamentals.
• Create research and reading aids for college‑level writing.
• Collaborate with ADA students to ensure accessibility and success.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the coordinator.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least one year of experience providing writing assistance or tutoring.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Friendly, approachable demeanor for student interaction.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MLA, APA, and Chicago citation styles.
• Strong knowledge of the academic research and writing process.
