Part-Time Meat Clerk

About the role

Fresh Thyme Market in Gahanna is hiring a part-time Meat Clerk. The clerk keeps the store's meat and seafood cases stocked and clean during business hours, assists customers and follows all Meat Department procedures. The position suits someone passionate about the retail grocery market and organic products.

Key responsibilities

• Keep meat and seafood cases, storage areas and work areas clean and safe, including sweeping and keeping floors free of spills.
• Stock cases, present products, face and organize items according to department schematics, and check tag and pricing accuracy.
• Check product rotation and watch for expired stock.
• Answer customer questions, help with purchases and sell and cross-sell products at the meat counter.
• Receive, inspect and log incoming products for shipment, temperature and quality accuracy.
• Monitor point-of-purchase signs, recipe cards, coupons and promotional material.
• Use knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks and hand trucks, and follow safety practices such as mesh gloves with knives.
• Prepare meat and seafood products with correct ingredients and cooking times, and maintain proper temperatures throughout production.
• Organize, stack and rotate products in the cooler and freezer, and weigh, label, package and wrap products correctly.
• Take part in pre-inventory preparation, including back stock and matching tags to products.
• Maintain a clean, organized department and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: 1-2 years of grocery retail experience in meat department processes, and previous experience in a natural foods industry is a plus.
• Ability to work varied hours and days as business dictates.
• Familiarity with Health Department guidelines for grocery retail and basic knowledge of math, weights and measures.

• Knife, tenderizer, grinder and meat machinery skills.
• Expert packaging and wrapping skills.
• Ability to cut and weigh meat and seafood, and understand COOL compliance for seafood and its countries of origin.
• Customer service, attention to detail, multitasking and organizational skills.
