Part-Time Cook

About the role

The Dayton Convention Center, managed by ASM Global, is looking for a part-time cook. The cook prepares banquet offerings and menu items ordered through the point-of-sale system, including cooking, baking and butchering, and carries out all kitchen duties. The position must be able to use BEOs to meet client needs in a timely and organized way.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare hot and cold food to order per standardized recipes, and prepare food for banquet orders and large groups
• Follow Health Department and ServSafe regulations, temperature danger zone guidelines and proper food handling techniques
• Set up the station before opening based on historical par levels, and keep the work area clean, organized and sanitary
• Store and manage raw and cooked foods and non-food supplies, keeping products wrapped, labeled and dated, and applying FIFO rotation
• Keep a sanitizer bucket at proper dilution and request inventory refills on time
• Operate equipment such as knives, grills, flat tops and fryers safely, and cook the exact number of items ordered while working on several orders at once
• Distribute food to the concession cashier/attendant and supervise temporary labor staff as needed

Required profile

• Culinary school certificate of one year, or three plus years in a multi-purpose, high-volume operation, or a similar combination of education and experience
• Compliance with health codes and the Uniform Standards policy
• Flexible hours, as irregular hours may exist depending on events
• Physical demands: regular standing and walking, lifting and pushing 50 pounds, moving heavy wheeled carts, and working in hot and cold environments
