Paramedic – Advanced Life Support

About the role

Phelps Health Hospital is seeking a skilled Paramedic to deliver both basic and advanced life support in a fast‑paced, rural‑hospital environment. You will assess patients, perform critical interventions, and coordinate care with emergency services and hospital staff.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and reassess patients, providing rescue interventions according to Medical Director protocols when direct medical control is unavailable.
• Delegate tasks to EMTs and First Responders, monitoring performance and ensuring compliance with scope of practice.
• Perform advanced procedures such as 4‑lead and 12‑lead cardiac monitoring, transcutaneous pacing, defibrillation, capnography, endotracheal intubation, King airway insertion, LMA, needle decompression, C‑PAP, VAD, IV and intraosseous access, drug calculations, medication administration, and rapid sequence intubation (RSI).
• Coordinate patient hand‑off to receiving facilities with concise, accurate reports.
• Activate the trauma team and manage trauma scenes efficiently.
• Maintain infection control, safe patient handling, and accurate documentation on MARF forms.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of a Missouri State‑approved EMT‑P program.
• At least one year of EMT‑P experience preferred.
• Current Missouri EMT‑P license, BLS, ACLS, PHTLS, and PALS certifications.
• Ability to lift 50 lb, stand, walk, and drive for extended periods while handling stressful, traumatic situations.

Required skills

• Cardiac monitoring (4‑lead & 12‑lead) and arrhythmia interpretation.
• Transcutaneous pacing, defibrillation, and capnography.
• Airway management: endotracheal intubation, King airway, LMA, needle decompression, C‑PAP.
• Vascular access: IV, intraosseous insertion, VAD.
• Medication administration, drug calculations, and rapid sequence intubation (RSI).
• Critical thinking, patient assessment, and emergency documentation.
