Paralegal – Street Safety Bureau

About the role

The Kings County District Attorney’s Office is seeking a Paralegal to support its Street Safety Bureau. The role involves coordinating discovery, managing records, and preparing subpoenas for DWI and vehicular crime cases while collaborating with law enforcement and internal attorneys.

Key responsibilities

• Act as liaison with Highway 2 personnel to obtain discovery for DWI and vehicular crime prosecutions.
• Serve as discovery liaison for Assistant District Attorneys across the office.
• Maintain case records and fulfill document requests for Criminal and Supreme Court matters.
• Prepare subpoenas for civilian witnesses, Grand Jury, and trial proceedings.
• Coordinate with the Collision Investigation Squad and expert witnesses.
• Liaise with the Department of Motor Vehicles to obtain abstracts, hearing minutes, and driver applications.
• Identify VTL 511 cases daily for supervisory review and update the case‑management system.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, or an associate degree with 2‑4 years of paralegal experience, or an ABA‑approved Paralegal Certification.
• Strong attention to detail, discretion, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and Access.
• Experience with Lexis‑Nexis and internet legal research.
• Familiarity with case‑management tools such as E‑Justice portal, Case Monitor, and OCA.
