Paralegal & Litigation Specialist

About the role

Protect Democracy is seeking an experienced Paralegal & Litigation Specialist to support impact litigation aimed at preventing authoritarianism. The role involves managing case files, drafting pleadings, and contributing to communications that defend democratic norms.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and organize case files, prepare legal memos, pleadings, and coordinate court filings.
• Conduct legal research, synthesize findings, and draft memoranda, reports, and public‑facing documents.
• Lead discovery processes, cite‑check, Bluebook documents, and proofread filings.
• Engage with clients, opposing counsel, partner organizations, and draft external communications such as press releases and op‑eds.
• Project‑manage litigation components, develop work plans, track progress, and maintain information‑management systems.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of filing experience in civil litigation, familiar with federal and state court rules.
• Strong writing, research, editing, and proofreading abilities.
• Experience project managing in a legal context and excellent interpersonal skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment and collaborate with diverse teams.
• Passionate commitment to preserving democratic norms and institutions.

• Salary range $84,300 – $99,200 per year (FLSA non‑exempt, overtime eligible)
