Packaging Engineering Intern

About the role

Stryker is looking for a Packaging Engineering intern in Tempe, Arizona. The internship is onsite and places the intern in one of three teams within the mechanical engineering group: Research & Development, New Product Development, Product Engineering or Test Lab. The intern applies classroom knowledge in a fast-paced industry setting, works on real projects, networks with leaders and learns to document and present complex processes clearly.

Key responsibilities

• New Product Development: work with cross-functional teams to identify the needs and goals of future products, research new technologies, customer expectations, business requirements and regulations, and use tools such as CAD, FEA and test labs to turn product concepts into production-ready designs.
• Product Engineering: work with cross-functional teams to improve current products, using CAD, FEA, test labs and root cause analysis to improve product safety and efficacy.
• Test Lab: partner with Test Engineers and R&D to test early prototypes, build fixtures that simulate real-life conditions and carry out design verification through quantitative testing of technical specifications.

Required profile

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field, and must stay enrolled in a degree-seeking program after the internship.
• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above, verified at time of hire.
• Legally authorized to work in the U.S. and does not need employment-based sponsorship now or in the future.
• Strong written and verbal communication, collaboration and relationship-building skills.
• Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving and organizational skills, able to manage multiple priorities.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Familiarity with CAD and FEA is useful, as these tools are used in the teams

• Pay of $20 minimum to $35 maximum per hour
