Outpatient Clinical Care Assistant / Medical Assistant / LPN – Pulmonology

About the role

The Outpatient Clinical Care Assistant works in the Pulmonary Ambulatory Operations unit of Independence Family Health Center, providing direct patient care and supporting clinical staff during a regular weekday shift.

Key responsibilities

• Perform patient rooming, including vitals, height, weight, intake questions, and documentation of abnormal findings.
• Collect specimens, conduct point‑of‑care testing, and prepare samples for the laboratory.
• Assist with exams and procedures such as EKG, Holter monitor application, pulse oximetry, and vision/hearing screenings.
• Maintain equipment, medical supplies, and examination areas; handle inventory and restocking.
• Complete administrative duties including patient registration, scheduling, data entry, and filing.

Required profile

• Graduate of an approved medical assisting program or equivalent military medical training.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (must be obtained within the new‑hire period if not already held).
• One year of recent healthcare experience in a hospital, ambulatory, or long‑term care setting.
• For LPN candidates: current Ohio LPN license and graduation from an approved practical nursing school.

Required skills

• Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
• Experience with point‑of‑care testing and specimen collection.
• Knowledge of basic cardiac monitoring equipment (EKG, Holter).
• Ability to perform basic wound care and apply/remove casts, braces, and splints.
