Organ Preservationist Specialist

About the role

The Organ Preservationist Specialist plays a critical role in life‑saving transplant procedures by independently managing the preservation, evaluation, and transport of donor organs. Working night shifts on the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, you will collaborate with transplant surgeons, operating rooms, and organ procurement organizations to maximize organ viability.

Key responsibilities

• Perform aseptic preparation, flushing, packaging, labeling, and preservation of donor organs for transplantation and research.
• Support surgical teams during organ recovery, including bench preparation and evaluation of organ condition.
• Coordinate organ transport logistics, ensuring compliance with documentation, regulatory requirements, and communication with transplant centers and OPO partners.
• Maintain sterility, readiness of preservation solutions, equipment, and supplies for scheduled and emergent cases.
• Document preservation activities, equipment performance, and quality metrics in designated systems.

Required profile

• Associate’s degree in Allied Health, Biomedical Science, Surgical Technology, or related field.
• Certified Transplant Preservationist (CTP) or Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) within two years of hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Experience in a clinical, surgical, laboratory, or technical environment.

Required skills

• Advanced sterile technique and aseptic preparation.
• Knowledge of organ preservation devices and machine perfusion technology.
• Familiarity with transplant regulatory policies (OPTN/UNOS) and documentation.
• Ability to evaluate organ condition during preservation and transport.
