Optometrist

About the role

The Optometrist will deliver comprehensive eye and vision care at the Colusa Indian Optometry Clinic, performing examinations, diagnosing visual disorders, and managing treatment plans using advanced diagnostic technology.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with ophthalmic technicians, opticians, and healthcare staff to provide coordinated, high‑quality patient care.
• Perform comprehensive eye exams, diagnose conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, and diabetic retinopathy, and prescribe therapeutic medications as permitted by state law.
• Prescribe, fit, and educate patients on eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other visual aids.
• Detect systemic disease indicators through ocular exams and coordinate referrals.
• Document patient histories, manage EMR records, and handle ocular emergencies according to clinical protocols.

Required profile

• Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree from an accredited school.
• Current, valid optometry license in good standing.
• At least one year of clinical experience preferred; new graduates are encouraged to apply.
• Strong organizational, communication, and customer‑service skills.

Required skills

• Familiarity with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
• Knowledge of ICD‑10 and CPT‑4 coding.
• Ability to use advanced digital lane equipment and high‑resolution imaging tools.
