Operations Analyst - Surplus Lines

About the role

Howden, a global insurance group, is hiring an Operations Analyst in New York with a hybrid work schedule. The analyst supports the Private Capital broking teams across the policy lifecycle and helps prepare surplus lines compliance filings. The role is based in the New York City office, on site with some remote work.

Key responsibilities

• Support brokers, operations, finance, legal and compliance teams throughout the policy lifecycle.
• Review and validate policy information using knowledge of insurance rules and regulations in each state and general insurance best practices.
• Complete carrier and state surplus lines forms, check accuracy and return them to clients, brokers or insurers/MGAs.
• Compile surplus lines filing documentation and reconcile premiums, taxes and fees before filing.
• Prepare and submit surplus lines filings to state authorities by regulatory deadlines, and monitor changes in filing requirements.
• Follow up with clients and insurers after binding, closing and post-closing to ensure file completeness.
• Review and negotiate NDAs, draft NDA Joinder Agreements and Non Reliance Letters, and perform KYC checks on prospective clients.
• Ensure data accuracy, validate system entries against quality assurance requirements and keep files up to date.
• Respond promptly to customer needs and solicit feedback to improve service.

Required profile

• 1-5 years' experience; experience in a related field preferred.
• Bachelor's degree or relevant experience.
• General understanding of insurance and surplus lines rules preferred.
• Excellent attention to detail, ability to prioritise, multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to collaborate and communicate with all levels of an organisation.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Outlook.

• Base salary of $70,000-$85,000, depending on experience and location; the role is FLSA-exempt.
