Nursing Department Assistant III – Geriatric Psychiatry

About the role

Join Cleveland Clinic’s Lutheran Hospital, a Magnet‑recognized facility offering world‑class patient care. The Geriatric Psych Unit focuses on the mental health needs of patients aged 55 and older. As a Nursing Department Assistant III you will support daily living activities, maintain a safe environment, manage supplies, transport patients and assist the RN with direct care tasks such as EKGs, blood glucose monitoring and specimen collection.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with a wide variety of patient care tasks and collaborate with the health‑care team.
• Organize patient care assignments to ensure timely delivery of care.
• Document care provided in patient records and label specimens correctly.
• Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of the unit, including equipment cleaning and preparation of rooms for admissions.
• Make hourly patient rounds, ensure safety measures (bed rails, alarms, restraints) are in place.
• Utilize personal protective equipment and universal precautions while supporting patient independence.
• Report equipment, supply or maintenance problems promptly to the RN.

Required profile

• Minimum: High School Diploma/GED, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention certification, basic math and literacy skills.
• Preferred: State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) certification, prior nursing assistance experience, background in behavioral health or medical settings.
