Nursing Department Assistant III – Float Pool

About the role

The Nursing Department Assistant III – Float Pool supports patient daily living activities and room maintenance across multiple units at Lutheran Hospital. Working days from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., you will gain experience in a wide range of specialties while collaborating with the care team.

Key responsibilities

• Assist patients with daily living tasks and perform basic clinical procedures such as EKGs, blood‑glucose monitoring, and specimen collection.
• Document vital signs, label specimens, and report pain assessments to RN/LPN.
• Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of patient areas, equipment, and rooms, preparing them for admissions.
• Conduct hourly patient safety rounds, ensure bed alarms are active, and report equipment or supply issues promptly.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (within new‑hire period).
• Physical ability to lift patients and perform frequent standing, walking, kneeling, and reaching.
• State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) certification and prior nursing assistance experience are preferred.

Required skills

• Performing EKGs.
• Monitoring blood glucose levels.
• Collecting and labeling specimens.
• Documenting vital signs accurately.
