Nursing Department Assistant III – Adult Psychiatry (Evening Shift)

About the role

The Nursing Department Assistant III provides essential support to adult and older adult patients on the 2B Adult Psychiatry Unit at Lutheran Hospital. Working the evening shift (3:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.), you will assist with daily living activities, maintain a clean environment, and perform basic clinical tasks such as EKGs, blood glucose monitoring, and specimen collection.

Key responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living and ensure a safe, orderly environment.
• Document care, record vital signs, and label specimens accurately.
• Perform basic clinical procedures including EKGs, blood glucose checks, and specimen collection.
• Maintain cleanliness of patient rooms and equipment, reporting any issues to the RN/LPN.
• Conduct hourly patient rounds to verify safety measures and activate bed alarms.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross) obtained within the new‑hire period.
• Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting patients and moving equipment.
• Willingness to work evenings and handle stressful conditions.

Required skills

• State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) certification (preferred).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
