About the role
The Nurse Extern II position is designed for nursing students enrolled in an accredited School of Nursing. It offers hands‑on experience working alongside RNs in various clinical settings, preparing you for a future RN role.
Key responsibilities
- Assist RNs with direct patient care, treatments, and diagnostic studies.
- Observe patients, communicate findings to the RN, and respond promptly to call lights.
- Perform unit‑specific technical skills and equipment quality checks.
- Participate in patient rounds, anticipate needs, and support unit and hospital goals.
Required profile
- High School Diploma/GED and enrollment in an accredited nursing program (sophomore year or equivalent).
- Minimum 2.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
- Ability to lift/carry 40‑50 lb and stand/walk for long periods.
- Successful completion of orientation and maintenance of unit competencies.
Required skills
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (Pennsylvania) within 30 days of hire.
- Basic computer skills.
