Nurse Extern - Hendersonville

About the role

AdventHealth Hendersonville is hiring a Nurse Extern for a day shift, PRN schedule. The extern assists in patient care under the direction of a registered nurse, following infection control and safety guidelines, and works in a modern, well-equipped environment with exposure to bloodborne pathogens.

Key responsibilities

• Follow CDC isolation guidelines, use PPE correctly, perform hand hygiene and enforce safety regulations.
• Perform tasks under the direction of a registered nurse and assist in patient care.
• Document and report procedures accurately, and participate in nursing history taking and evaluation of developmental level and dependency needs.
• Perform treatments according to policy and procedure, and respond appropriately in clinical emergencies.
• Take vitals, record blood pressure, I&O and blood glucose results, and distribute and collect dietary trays.
• Perform accuchecks and hemoccults, remove peripheral IV catheters, empty Foley bags, JP's and hemovacs.
• Participate in quality improvement activities and support quality standards.

Required profile

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program and completed the first semester of Nursing Fundamentals, or completed an accredited nursing program within one year without yet holding an RN license.
• 1+ years as a nursing assistant preferred.
• Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required.
• Ability to float between assignments, work weekends, nights, holidays and overtime, and lift patients and equipment.

Required skills

• Knowledge of age-specific care needs for geriatric, adult, adolescent and pediatric patients.
• Effective verbal and written communication and accurate documentation.
• Basic computer skills and data entry; Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
• Medical terminology knowledge preferred.

Pay range: $15.37 - $24.60. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.
