NOC Engineer

About the role

Leidos is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented NOC Engineer to join its Network Operations Center in Chantilly. The engineer acts as the first line of defense for network availability, performance and stability, monitoring systems, triaging alerts, troubleshooting complex routing and hardware issues and collaborating with cross-functional IT teams to resolve incidents quickly.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor network performance, server health, bandwidth utilization and core infrastructure using tools such as SolarWinds and Splunk.
• Detect anomalies, analyze alerts, triage severity and start troubleshooting or escalation, keeping leadership and the O&M team informed.
• Diagnose and fix hardware, software and connectivity faults on routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs and servers.
• Document trouble tickets and escalate unresolved, high-priority issues to Tier 2/3 engineering teams.
• Run scheduled network maintenance, software updates and security patches during maintenance windows.
• Maintain shift logs, update SOPs and generate network reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of hands-on experience in a NOC, IT Help Desk or network administration environment, or 5 years of experience in lieu of a degree.
• TS/SCI clearance with an active and current poly; psychological and medical testing may be required.
• Willingness to work the NOC schedule: 12-hour days, Monday to Friday, in 8-hour shifts.

Required skills

• Core networking fundamentals: OSI model, routing and switching protocols (BGP, OSPF), VLANs, DNS, DHCP and VPN technologies.
• Familiarity with enterprise equipment such as Cisco and Juniper, and Linux/Windows Server.
• Preferred: CompTIA Network+, CCNA or equivalent certification.
