Night Shift Nursing Assistant – Adult Psychiatry

About the role

The Nursing Assistant provides daily living support for adult psychiatry patients on the night shift at Lutheran Hospital. The role includes patient transport, equipment upkeep, and assisting the RN with clinical tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with a wide variety of patient care tasks and collaborate with the health‑care team.
• Organize patient care assignments to ensure timely delivery.
• Document care provided in the patient record and label specimens properly.
• Monitor pain levels, report to RN/LPN, and ensure safety measures such as bed alarms are active.
• Maintain cleanliness of the unit, equipment, and patient areas.
• Perform hourly patient rounds to verify safety and comfort.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) certification preferred.
• Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) within the new‑hire period.
• Previous nursing assistant experience preferred.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and maintain confidentiality.

Required skills

• Perform EKGs, blood glucose monitoring, and specimen collection.
• Perform dressing changes, colostomy care, and document vital signs.
• Use personal protective equipment and follow universal precautions.
• Physical ability to lift patients and handle equipment.
