Newborn Screening Lab Services Director

About the role

The State of Georgia is seeking a senior leader to direct its Newborn Screening Laboratory Services. This position oversees the statewide newborn screening program, ensuring accurate, timely results for all newborns in Georgia.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and direct all laboratory activities related to newborn screening across two locations (Decatur and Waycross).
• Develop, review, and implement policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines for the screening program.
• Provide technical expertise for validation and implementation of genetic tests aligned with the Recommended Uniform Screening Panel (RUSP).
• Coordinate with the Department of Public Health, medical follow‑up programs, and external partners.
• Lead scientific managers, technical staff, and administrative support, fostering a culture of quality and safety.
• Oversee equipment procurement, inventory management, documentation, and continuous quality improvement.

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience in public health laboratory management or a related scientific field.
• Proven ability to supervise scientific and technical personnel.
• Strong understanding of newborn screening processes and genetic testing.
• Experience collaborating with public health programs and external stakeholders.
• Commitment to maintaining high quality and safety standards.
