About the role
Shield AI, a venture-backed defense-tech company, is looking for a Network Architect to define and evolve its secure, scalable and resilient network architecture. Working in the Cloud & Infrastructure team within Enterprise Operations, this individual contributor sets network strategy, standards and reference architectures across offices, engineering labs, manufacturing facilities, data centers, public cloud environments and international locations, while staying hands-on for complex, high-risk deployments.
Key responsibilities
- Define and maintain the enterprise network architecture, strategy, standards, roadmaps and reference designs
- Architect LAN, WAN, wireless, internet edge, data center, VPN, SASE, NAC and network security solutions across a globally distributed environment
- Design routing and connectivity using BGP, OSPF, IPsec, private circuits and cloud interconnects
- Set standards for segmentation, IP addressing, naming, routing, high availability, QoS, observability, capacity and lifecycle management
- Lead architecture reviews, technology evaluations, proofs of concept and design decisions
- Design secure networks for manufacturing, IoT, industrial, lab and operational technology environments, including hybrid connectivity across AWS, Azure, data centers, colocation and on-premises sites
- Integrate acquired companies, legacy networks, international locations and new facilities into enterprise standards
- Act as senior technical authority for complex designs, escalations and resiliency improvements
- Lead first-of-kind deployments, migrations, cutovers, validation testing, incident response and troubleshooting
- Turn architecture into implementation plans, reusable configurations and operational standards, and advance network automation and infrastructure-as-code with Terraform, Ansible and Python
- Produce architecture diagrams, design documents, decision records and operational documentation
Required profile
- 10+ years of progressive experience in enterprise network engineering and architecture across complex, multi-site environments
- Demonstrated experience leading network architecture from design through implementation and handoff
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
- Ability to travel periodically and support after-hours implementations or critical incidents
Required skills
- Routing, switching, wireless, WAN, VPN, segmentation and high-availability design
- BGP, OSPF, VLANs, VRFs, QoS, IPsec, DNS, DHCP, NAT and route redistribution
- Firewall architecture, zero-trust, network access control and secure remote access
- AWS and Azure networking, including transit and private connectivity
- Preferred: IoT/OT network design, Palo Alto Networks, Juniper, Mist, Aruba, ClearPass, CMMC, NIST 800-171, ITAR, network automation and CCNP/CCIE or equivalent certification
