Telecommunications Aerial Designer

Job description
About the role
ISG is looking for a Telecommunications Aerial Designer to join its Telecommunications + Utility Business Unit in Green Bay. You will engineer pole attachment and make-ready designs for aerial fiber builds, working closely with the Telecommunications Practice Group Leader, Matt Cherek. The firm is a full-service, multi-disciplinary planner, designer, surveyor and constructor serving public and private clients.
Key responsibilities
- Produce aerial fiber design and pole-loading deliverables for joint-use routes, applying the NESC for clearances, loading districts and grade-of-construction requirements.
- Perform make-ready engineering: identify clearance violations, pole replacements, riser/down-guy needs and rearrangements, and turn field conditions into construction notes.
- Develop and review pole attachment applications to utility and joint-use owner standards, including forms, exhibits and supporting calculations.
- Run sag and tension analysis and verify mid-span and ground clearances against NESC Rule 232/235 and applicable loading cases.
- Interpret field survey and as-built data and incorporate terrain and elevation data into clearance analysis.
- Prepare construction-ready drawings, route prints and design packages in CAD/GIS, including pole-by-pole detail and make-ready summaries.
- Coordinate with joint-use departments, permitting agencies, survey crews and construction partners to resolve design conflicts.
- Support quality control of design deliverables and keep documentation ready for utility and ROW review; field data collection by travel when needed.
Required profile
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in a related technical field, relevant certification, or equivalent OSP/joint-use design experience.
- Valid driver's license.
- Attention to detail, comfort with field data, and effective communication with utilities, permitting agencies and construction crews.
- Entry-level candidates with a strong technical foundation are encouraged to apply.
Required skills
- Working knowledge of NESC clearance and loading rules for communications attachments.
- Familiarity with aerial OSP and FTTH design: joint use, make-ready, pole loading, messenger/strand, guying and down-guy/anchor placement.
- Reading and producing OSP construction prints, route prints and pole detail sheets.
- CAD and/or GIS (AutoCAD, ArcGIS or equivalent); pole loading software such as O-Calc or SPIDAcalc is a strong plus.
What we offer
- Pay of $20-$35 per hour, depending on experience.
- Medical, dental and vision coverage, paid time off, paid holidays and volunteer time, and paid parental leave.
- Bi-annual profit sharing, ESOP, 401K, life insurance, HSA/FSA options, bereavement leave and supplemental voluntary benefits.
- Parking reimbursement, varying by office location.
