RF Test Engineer

About the role

Impulse Space is looking for an RF Test Engineer in Redondo Beach to own the design, bring-up and implementation of test fixtures and software for its wireless products. The engineer works with RF, RF software, mechanical and other engineers to cover uplink and downlink radios up to 32GHz, GNSS receivers, desense and coexistence testing.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement RF test requirements, the RF test software architecture and RF test hardware fixtures with a cross-disciplinary team
• Write scripts to control RF test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, antenna test infrastructure, power meters and power supplies
• Design fixtures to test compatibility with GNSS constellations and ground station infrastructure
• Prepare testing for radiation and ground station test programs with hardware and software engineers
• Develop and test satellite-to-ground data pipelines with ground software teams

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related technical field
• 2+ years of experience writing Python, LabView, TILE or other test software
• Experience writing scripts for wireless systems or hardware testing infrastructure
• Ability to work in the lab with RF equipment including spectrum analyzers, signal generators and software-defined radios
• Strong understanding of RF parameters such as channel power, EVM, modulation and bandwidth
• Experience writing and documenting RF test procedures for other engineers and technicians

Preferred skills

• Testing and troubleshooting microcontrollers and/or FPGAs
• Familiarity with embedded Linux
• Common RF protocols such as SRS4, DVBS-II and CCSDS
• GNU radio flowgraph development and troubleshooting
• Satellite spectrum licensing knowledge and regulatory compliance testing
• Startup or agile development experience

• Pay of $105,000 - $130,000 per year, depending on role, level, location and skills
