Multiphysics & Engineering Intern - Summer 2027

About the role

ABB is hiring a Multiphysics & Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 in Raleigh, NC, reporting to the Research Department Manager. The internship offers hands-on experience on projects, with an onsite or hybrid work model. It suits students currently enrolled in a US Master's or PhD program in Electrical, Mechanical, Materials Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or similar fields.

Key responsibilities

• Support ABB R&D projects and investigations on electrical, mechanical, thermal topics and/or generative AI
• Find and evaluate state-of-the-art technology from public sources
• Contribute to and critique new ideas, features, solutions and evaluation strategies
• Help design, draw and model new components and test set-ups
• Help design, run and document calculations, simulations, laboratory tests and experiments

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in a US Master's or PhD program in the listed engineering or science fields; recent graduates also considered
• Specialized coursework or research in electrical machine design and testing, mechanical/thermal modelling, mechatronics experimental prototyping, or implementation of generative AI
• Reliable transportation to and from the worksite
• Legal authorization to work in the United States without company sponsorship now and in the future
• Ability to analyze complex situations, prioritize tasks, manage several tasks at once and collaborate with team members

What we offer

• Expected pay of $20-$34 per hour, depending on qualifications, graduation year and experience
