Senior Automation Engineer

About the role

Matrix Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to join its hybrid team in Raleigh, NC. The role focuses on designing, programming, and commissioning DCS/PLC control systems for a variety of industrial clients.

Key responsibilities

• Develop functional specifications, DCS/PLC code, and HMI graphics for new and existing control systems.
• Lead software development, factory acceptance testing, and on‑site start‑up activities.
• Prepare project scopes, design concepts, cost estimates, and report performance.
• Mentor junior engineers and may supervise project teams.
• Ensure compliance with safety practices, Matrix standards, and client requirements.

Required profile

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Chemical, or related engineering field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum six years of controls, automation, and electrical troubleshooting experience.
• Experience with EPC projects and systems integration is preferred.
• Ability to travel 15‑25% locally and overnight.
• Legal eligibility to work in the United States.

Required skills

• Allen‑Bradley, Rockwell Automation, Siemens, and Aveva platforms.
• Programming and configuration of DCS and PLC systems.
• HMI development and graphic screen design.
• Industrial communication protocols: Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, Modbus TCP/IP.
• Process control network architecture design.
