Senior Electrical Engineer – Control Panel Design

About the role

Matrix Technologies is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to design PLC control panels, MCCs, and VFD panels for industrial and manufacturing clients. This hybrid position is based in Raleigh, NC, and offers a salaried package with overtime eligibility.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare scopes of work, preliminary designs, cost estimates, and project specifications.
• Design electrical control packages, develop PLC I/O schematics, panel layouts, bill of materials, three‑line motor diagrams, cable schedules, and conduit layouts.
• Ensure compliance with NEC, UL508A, NFPA, and other industry codes.
• Act as the primary liaison between the electrical discipline, other engineering teams, and clients throughout the design process.
• Support installation contractors, conduct on‑site bid walks, and assist with field start‑ups and I/O checks.
• Provide mentorship and leadership to less‑experienced engineers.

Required profile

• At least six years of experience as an electrical engineer, preferably with EPC projects.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET‑accredited program.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel 20‑25% locally and overnight.

Required skills

• PLC control panel design and I/O schematic development.
• AutoCAD schematic drawing.
• Experience with AC & DC motor drives, VFD panels, MCCs, and industrial control networks.
• Knowledge of NEC, UL508A, NFPA codes.
• Creation of panel layouts, bill of materials, three‑line diagrams, cable schedules, and conduit layouts.
