Mobile Equipment Operator – Heavy Machinery

About the role

The Mobile Equipment Operator – Heavy position is responsible for safely operating large mowers and tractors across the LSU campus in Baton Rouge. You will work closely with landscape and construction crews to keep the grounds well‑maintained while ensuring equipment is ready for use at all times.

Key responsibilities

• Operate large mowers and tractors ranging from 25 HP to 125 HP on campus grounds.
• Collaborate with landscape and construction crews to perform various grounds‑maintenance tasks.
• Conduct preventive maintenance, cleaning, greasing, minor repairs, and keep accurate maintenance records.
• Maintain equipment in a state ready for inspection and emergency deployment.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Required profile

• Minimum two years of experience operating mobile equipment.
• Valid driver’s license; motor‑vehicle record (MVR) check required.
• Eligibility for drug screening and safety‑sensitive position clearance.
• Physical ability to meet the demands of equipment operation and maintenance.
• Willingness to report to campus during emergencies or closures.

Required skills

• Operation of large mowers (25‑125 HP).
• Operation of tractors (25‑125 HP).
• Preventive maintenance and minor repair of heavy equipment.
