Microbiology Technician I

About the role
We are seeking an entry‑level Microbiology Technician to join the Microbiology Department of Clinical Pathology Laboratories in Austin, Texas. This full‑time, first‑shift position (9 AM‑5 PM) offers the opportunity to work in a fast‑paced, science‑driven laboratory environment and contribute to the health of our community.
Key responsibilities
- Perform moderate to high‑complexity microbiology testing on clinical specimens such as urine, blood, sputum, wounds, and body fluids.
- Analyze, review, and report test results, ensuring timely communication of critical findings.
- Handle biological and chemical hazards safely while maintaining compliance with laboratory safety protocols.
- Troubleshoot unexpected results and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Promote quality control, safety, and regulatory compliance within the lab.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a chemical, biological, or medical science.
- Strong reading, writing, and analytical abilities.
- Willingness to learn new techniques and pursue continuous professional development.
- Availability to work first shift and weekends.
Required skills
- Microbiology testing on clinical specimens.
- Operation of automated analyzers.
- Centrifuge operation.
- Microscope use.
- Manual and automated pipetting.
- Use of laboratory information systems and computer equipment.
