Merchandising Assistant Store Manager in Training

About the role

The Home Depot is hiring a Merchandising Assistant Store Manager in Training (MASM-IT) for its Hendersonville store. The role gives hands-on experience in the key responsibilities of a Specialty Assistant Store Manager, with a training program of up to 6 weeks that includes mentorship, leadership development and exposure to Manager on Duty duties across the Garden, Hardware, Lumber, Building Materials, Plumbing and Electrical departments.

Key responsibilities

• Customer experience: supervise associates in the selling effort, drive customer service and engagement, and resolve customer concerns promptly.
• Operations management: run opening and closing duties, follow company policies and procedures, know store SOPs (especially safety compliance) and help reduce shrink.
• Safety: make sure self and associates follow safety and hazmat procedures and Safety Matters guidelines.
• Sales and productivity: plan merchandise placement and signing, support stock integrity through inventory management, and learn to operate store equipment and systems and manage daily financial operations.
• Training and preparation for the Assistant Manager position: complete a structured program covering operations, customer service, sales and profitability, staffing and scheduling, performance management and the associate disciplinary process, and finish all assigned training modules and assessments.

Required profile

• Able to work in the United States and at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or GED; preferred: bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field.
• Preferred: 3 years of work experience and 3 years of leadership experience.
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Physical requirements include continuous standing or walking and regularly lifting or carrying material of moderate weight (8-20 pounds); overnight travel is typically less than 5% of the time. The position reports to the Store Manager and has no direct reports.
