Merchandising Assistant Store Manager in Training

About the role

The Home Depot offers a Merchandising Assistant Store Manager in Training (MASM-IT) position at its West Nyack store. The trainee gains hands-on experience in the key responsibilities of a Specialty Assistant Store Manager through a 6-week training program that includes mentorship, leadership development and exposure to Manager on Duty duties. The trainee learns to oversee the Merchandising departments (Garden, Hardware, Lumber, Building Materials, Plumbing and Electrical) and to work with the Store Manager, Assistant Store Managers and merchandising field teams.

Key responsibilities

• Customer experience: supervise associates in the selling effort, drive customer service and engagement, and resolve customer concerns promptly.
• Operations management: run opening and closing duties, follow company policies and procedures, know store SOPs (including safety compliance) and help reduce shrink.
• Safety: make sure self and associates follow safety and hazmat procedures.
• Sales and productivity: plan merchandise placement and signing, support stock integrity through inventory management, and learn to operate store equipment and systems and manage daily financial operations.
• Training: complete a structured program covering operations, customer service, sales and profitability, staffing and scheduling, stock deficiencies, performance reviews and the disciplinary process, plus all assigned modules and assessments.

Required profile

• Able to work in the United States and at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or GED; preferred: bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field.
• Preferred: 3 years of work experience and 3 years of leadership experience.
• Preferred: demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Typical reporting line to the Store Manager, with no direct reports; occasional overnight travel under 5% of the time.
• Physical requirements: continuous standing or walking, and regular lifting or carrying of 8-20 pound items; indoor working conditions.
