Melt and Materials Lab Supervisor - 1st Shift

About the role

The Melt and Materials Lab Supervisor at Clow Valve (1st Shift) ensures iron melt production success and high-quality metal castings by testing, analyzing and evaluating raw materials, charge mixes, samples and castings, and communicating results internally and externally. The role is split between production control, leadership, administration and process improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Production control: plan iron melting and pouring with the general foreman, manage resources, daily material flow and equipment diagnostics, audit equipment function daily, coordinate preventive maintenance and document melt recipes and charge mixes.
• Leadership: communicate safety and quality standards, run daily startup meetings, coach staff, and mentor high-potential employees on career paths.
• Administration: coordinate with external labs and sand and metal distributors, record data for weekly and monthly reports, track inventory and submit requisitions.
• Process improvement: analyze equipment trends, recommend improvements, share industry material trends with Engineering and keep the department current.

Required profile

• Either 2-3 years of leadership experience in manufacturing operations (lead person, leadership trainee or growth opportunities), or an Associate's degree with 2+ years in a manufacturing environment.
• Highly preferred: Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering or another technical/engineering discipline with 1-3 years of manufacturing experience in a leadership role.

Required skills

• Microsoft Office Suite, Excel specifically.
• Induction furnace/holder, autopour equipment and pouring ladles; CNC programming and molten metal handling desired.
• Root cause analysis; manufacturing and casting knowledge a plus.
