CNC Programmer - Tooling Center

About the role

The Tooling Center Programmer at Clow Valve Company in Oskaloosa, Iowa, provides expertise in producing foundry tooling such as patterns, core boxes, related components and molds for injection molding machines. The role combines programming, CNC machine operation and mentoring.

Key responsibilities

• Programming (40%): work with engineers and the CAD technician to improve tooling designs, write G-code programs in Mastercam, design work holding fixtures or choose purchased ones, maintain a tool library database, and select tooling with optimal speeds and feeds.
• CNC machine operation (40%): read blueprints, CAD models and drawings, set up and calibrate CNC machines, run them to produce high-quality parts, oversee machining processes, perform in-process inspections with calipers and micrometers, and keep the workspace clean and safe.
• Continuous education (10%): keep up with CAD/CAM, tooling and work holding technology and look for improvements.
• Training (10%): mentor and develop the Tooling Center Machinist's skills.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• 5 years of advanced manufacturing experience, including 3 years of verifiable CAM experience.
• Preferred: associate's degree or certification in CNC machining, precision machining or manufacturing technology, plus 5 years of advanced manufacturing and 3 years of CAM experience.

Required skills

• Strong programming skills and proficiency reading blueprints and technical drawings.
• CAD/CAM software experience.
• Strong problem-solving skills and knowledge of various materials.
• Mathematical aptitude in trigonometry and geometry.
• Preferred: Mastercam, Solidworks CSWA, multi-axis machine, metallurgy and foundry tooling experience.
